What IPTV Smarters Pro is, and what it isn't

Think of Smarters as the remote control and TV guide for an IPTV subscription. It reads the channel list, logos, guide data and on-demand library from your provider and shows them in one interface. Without a subscription it shows nothing, because it has no channels of its own.

That is why a search for an "IPTV Smarters Pro subscription" really means a subscription from an IPTV provider that you then load into Smarters. The app is free to download from the official sources listed below. Be wary of anyone selling "Smarters" as if it were the TV service itself.

Log in with Xtream Codes (recommended) or an M3U link

On its first screen Smarters offers two main ways to add your service. Choose Login with Xtream Codes API whenever your provider supports it, as IPTV PROS does, and fill in four fields:

IPTV Smarters Pro on Firestick and Fire TV

   Install Downloader

   From the Fire TV home screen, search for Downloader (the orange app by AFTVnews) and install it from the Amazon Appstore.

   Allow Downloader to install apps

   Go to Settings › My Fire TV › Developer Options › Install unknown apps and switch Downloader on. If Developer Options is missing, open Settings › My Fire TV › About and click your device name seven times to reveal it.

   Download Smarters from the official site

   Open Downloader, enter the download address published on the official IPTV Smarters website, and install the file when it finishes. Avoid "modded" versions from unknown sites.

   Open the app and log in

   Launch IPTV Smarters Pro, choose Login with Xtream Codes API and enter your details. Then delete the installer file in Downloader to free up storage.

IPTV Smarters Pro on Android TV, Google TV and Android phones

Smarters' availability on Google Play has changed over the years. If IPTV Smarters Pro is in the Play Store on your TV or phone, install it there. If not, download the official APK from the IPTV Smarters website and, when Android asks for permission to install unknown apps, allow it for that one app only. The login screen is the same as on Fire TV.

IPTV Smarters on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV

On Apple devices the App Store version is published as Smarters Player Lite, on iPhone and iPad and, where the App Store offers it, on Apple TV. IPTV Smarters Pro on Samsung and LG smart TVs

Some Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) models list IPTV Smarters in their app stores, but availability varies by model and region. If yours doesn't, IBO Player, IBO Pro and BOB Player work on both brands, and IPTV PROS can activate them for $10 CAD a year. A Fire TV Stick plugged into the TV is the other easy route.

IPTV Smarters on Windows and Mac

Settings that stop buffering

The default settings work for most people. If a channel stutters, change one thing at a time and test the same channel again:

• Stream format: in the settings, switch between the default, MPEG-TS (.ts) and HLS (.m3u8). One of them is usually smoother on a given device and network.
• Player selection: try the built-in player first, then the alternative player options. Some devices decode certain channels better with one than the other.
• Buffer size: where your version offers it, a larger buffer gives smoother playback at the cost of a slightly slower channel change. A smaller one changes channels faster but stutters more on a weak connection. Lowering it does not make the stream itself faster.
• Connection: Ethernet beats Wi-Fi every time. On Wi-Fi, use the 5 GHz band and keep the device close to the router.
• Guide updates: refresh the TV guide from the settings or the account menu if listings look stale or empty.

IPTV Smarters Pro not working? Fix it in this order

1. Check that the account is active. An expired subscription, or more devices streaming at once than your plan allows, blocks playback. The account screen in Smarters shows the expiry date and active connections.
2. Re-enter the server URL. Include http:// and the port, with no spaces at the start or end. A wrong URL causes "authorization failed" and "no internet" errors.
3. Restart the device and the router. Unplug both for 30 seconds; it clears more problems than any setting.
4. Clear the app's cache. On Fire TV and Android: Settings › Applications › IPTV Smarters Pro › Clear cache. Use Clear data only as a last resort, because it removes your login.
5. Update the app. Old versions can stop working with newer servers; reinstall from the official source.
6. Change the stream format or player as described above if channels load but freeze.
7. Fix a missing guide by refreshing the EPG. If it stays empty, see why the EPG is not working.
