Sooner or later every IPTV app asks for a parental control password: when you open an adult category, change a protected setting, or hand the remote to the kids. If you never set one, that prompt can be baffling. This guide explains where the password comes from, the common default PINs, how to set up a proper lock in the most popular IPTV apps and boxes, and what to do when you have forgotten it.
Short answer: there is no single IPTV parental password. On MAG boxes and many portal logins the factory default is 0000. In apps such as IPTV Smarters Pro and TiviMate you create the PIN yourself the first time you turn parental control on. On the TV or streaming device itself (Samsung, LG, Fire TV), the PIN belongs to the device, not the IPTV service. Forgotten an app PIN? Clearing the app's data resets it.
Where the parental control password comes from
The prompt can come from three different places, and the fix depends on which one is asking:
- The IPTV app (IPTV Smarters Pro, TiviMate, IBO Player). The PIN is stored in the app on that device. You set it, and only you can change it.
- The portal or box (MAG boxes, STB Emulator, Formuler in portal mode). The PIN is part of the box or portal settings and often ships with a default.
- The TV or streaming device (Samsung, LG, Amazon Fire TV, Google TV). This PIN locks apps or content ratings on the device, and it is separate from your IPTV service.
A quick test: if the prompt looks like the rest of your IPTV app, it's the app's PIN; if it appears before the app even opens, it's the device's.
Common default parental control PINs
| Where you see the prompt | Usual default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MAG box (Infomir) | 0000 | Change it in the box's parental control settings once you are in |
| Portal login in STB Emulator or Smart STB | 0000 on many portals | If it doesn't work, the provider sets it; ask support |
| IPTV Smarters Pro | None | You create the password the first time you open Parental Control |
| TiviMate | None | You set the PIN in Settings › Parental control |
| Samsung smart TV | 0000 | The TV's own PIN, used for app and channel locks |
| LG smart TV | 0000 (1234 on some models) | The TV's own PIN |
| Amazon Fire TV | Your Prime Video PIN | Set and reset in your Amazon account, not on the stick |
If the default doesn't work, someone has already changed it; the reset steps further down cover each case.
How to set up parental control in IPTV Smarters Pro
- Open Settings from the home screen and choose Parental Control.
- Create a password the first time you open it, and keep a note of it somewhere safe.
- Lock categories: choose the live TV, movie and series categories you want to protect, such as adult or mature groups, and save.
- Test it: go back to the category list; locked groups now ask for the password before they open.
The lock applies to that device only. If the family also watches on a phone or a second TV, set it up there too. Our IPTV Smarters Pro guide covers the rest of the app's settings.
How to set up parental control in TiviMate
- Open Settings › Parental control and set a PIN.
- Choose what to lock: you can protect individual channels or whole groups. Depending on your version, long-press a group or channel in the list and choose the lock option.
- Hide instead of lock: TiviMate can also hide groups you never want to see, which keeps adult categories out of the channel list entirely.
In current versions, TiviMate's parental options are part of its Premium features, so check your TiviMate subscription if the menu is missing. See how to install TiviMate for setup, and M3U vs Xtream Codes if you are still choosing a login type.
MAG boxes and portal logins
On a MAG box, the parental password protects locked channels and some settings, and the factory default is 0000. To change it, open the box's settings, find the parental or access control section, enter the old password and choose a new one. You can then lock individual channels from the TV list.
With STB Emulator or Smart STB, the parental password belongs to the portal account, so the default depends on your provider. If 0000 doesn't work, live support can help with your line. Our MAG box setup guide explains how portal logins work.
Smart TV players: IBO Player, BOB Player and others
Players installed directly on Samsung and LG TVs, such as IBO Player, IBO Pro and BOB Player, usually have their own parental lock in their settings. Where the app ships with a default PIN it is commonly 0000; otherwise you set one when you switch the lock on. Like Smarters and TiviMate, the lock lives in the app on that TV, so set it up on each set the children use. IPTV PROS can activate these players for $10 CAD a year if you would rather skip a streaming stick.
What to lock: a quick family checklist
- Adult and mature live TV categories, in every IPTV app on every device in the house.
- Adult categories in movies and series, which are listed separately from live TV in most apps and are easy to miss.
- The app's settings, where your app allows it, so the locks can't simply be switched off.
- App installs and purchases on the device: Fire TV's parental controls can require the PIN for both.
- The IPTV app itself on the children's TVs, using a kids profile or the TV's app lock.
Locking the device itself: Fire TV, Google TV and smart TVs
App-level locks protect categories inside IPTV; device-level locks stop children opening the IPTV app at all. Both are worth setting up on a shared TV.
- Amazon Fire TV: Settings › Preferences › Parental Controls › On. It uses your Prime Video PIN, which you manage in your Amazon account, and you can require the PIN to open apps.
- Google TV: add a kids profile, then choose which apps it can open; the IPTV app can simply be left off.
- Samsung and LG TVs: use the TV's own app lock (the default PIN is usually 0000) to lock the IPTV app on the TVs children use.
For a family setup, a simple pattern works well: lock adult categories inside the IPTV app on every device, and use a kids profile or app lock on the TVs the children use. Our guide to IPTV for families in Canada covers kids' channels and multi-screen plans.
Choosing a PIN children won't guess
Children learn defaults quickly, so change 0000 or 1234 the day you set things up. Avoid birth years, house numbers and anything written on the fridge. Using one PIN across all the family's devices is convenient, as long as it isn't the same as your bank card PIN, and a password manager is the easiest place to keep it.
Forgot the parental control password?
- IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate: the PIN is stored only on your device, so your provider can't see it. Clearing the app's data resets it, but it also removes your login and favourites; on a Fire TV that is under Settings › Applications › Manage Installed Applications. Have your login details ready first, and see clear cache vs clear data for the difference.
- MAG box: try 0000 first. If it has been changed and forgotten, a factory reset restores the default; you then re-enter your portal URL.
- Portal or STB Emulator logins: the password lives with the portal account, so ask your provider. IPTV PROS customers can ask live support for help.
- Fire TV: reset the Prime Video PIN from your Amazon account settings on the web.
Choosing a plan for a family
Parental controls work the same way on every IPTV PROS plan. If children and adults watch at the same time on different TVs, a 2- or 3-device plan avoids "too many connections" errors, and the Plan Finder suggests the right one. Plans start at $18 a month, and a free trial lets you set up the locks on your own devices before you subscribe.
